Poetry

Above A Brook

At stillness gaze again where oozings choose their notes in weeping estuaries,
Their twinkling currents, meeting tidal plains, play liquid melodies;
See petalled rhythms weave their plaits and pleats in emerald flowing robes:
Fritillaries of leaves, of drifting ease to dappled sandy coves.
Here chasing fleets of lilting shadows shift through dingled theatre-lands;
A cortège bears its rifts that nimbly rest ‘neath parloured curtained banks
Whilst at my feet, amidst the gloaming brook, this stillness barely stirs,
I hear the busy parliaments of rooks above the ballads of the birds:
More call than song the clamorous crows’ multif'rous interchange…
In all extremes, expanse of sky or tiny passing streams, raucous or lullaby, none is strange.
